Opening this 6th of September is Never Mind The Pollocks: Here Comes The Bastards!, a preview exhibit of recent works by some of the artists who will be participating in a landmark survey exhibit called The Bastards of Misrepresentation by the most cutting edge set of artists to have made and are continually creating an impact in the Philippine contemporary art scene. Curated by renown artist Manuel Ocampo, this survey show in New York shall be presented in Topaz Arts, Queens Museum of Art, Asian/Pacifi
c/American Institute at NYU and at Crossing Art Gallery. This exhibition will provide important opportunities for the artist involved by illustrating the diversity of practices currently being explored by the Filipino avant-garde . The exhibition will highlight the significant contribution this group of artist is currently making to the history of art in the Philippines, while embracing a new era of outward looking ambitious artists who are working hard to put Filipino creative communities on the world stage.
The artists who make up “the Bastards” who collectively share an aesthetic affinity with the abject, the sublime, the irascible, the incendiary, the untimely, and the illicit aesthetic frontier that pervades the urban reality of Manila , are : Poklong Anading, Yason Banal, Bea Camacho, Valeria Cavestany, Lena Cobangbang, Maria Cruz, Gaston Damag, Dex Fernandez, Arvin Flores, Dina Gadia, David Griggs, Robert Langenegger, Romeo Lee, Pow Martinez, Jayson Oliveria, Carlo Ricafort, Timo Roter, Gerry Tan, MM Yu, Maria Jeona Zoleta.
The Bastards of Misrepresentation has shown in Berlin, Germany at the Freies Museum in 2010, also at the Acht Salon in Hamburg, and recently in Bangkok, Thailand at the H Gallery. Scheduled in 2013 is a show at the MIAM Museum in Sete, France.
This preview exhibit to be mounted in Finale Art File is another platform to raise awareness for this important project as well as to raise funds to help subsidize the shipping of the artists works and the printing of the accompanying catalog. Aside from artworks and limited edition prints, Bastards merchandise such as shirts and bags will also be on sale on the opening.
